Today I Start Moving Upwards

Upwards SoccerUpwards soccer that is. It’s time to get active in some sort of ministry outside of the Church, meet some new people, and teach others about Christ. I had talked with my wife about getting active in something this spring and the owner of our local pizza shop asked if I would be interested in Upwards.

Upwards is a youth based ministry outreach designed to teach the basics of sports and deliver the Gospel message to children. My first impressions have been extremely positive. I am not only allowed to have prayer and devotions at practice and games, but am required to. The program encourages the coaches to invite un-churched team members to church and to explain the gospel to them.

Tonight will be our first outside practice, weather permitting, and I am pumped. The opportunity to teach Christ along with soccer to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, that’s just beyond belief. God truly is good.

50 by 50?

Lose 50 pounds before I turn 50! That’s the plan. There, I’m putting it in writing, so now I’m committed to it. How did this crazy plan come about? It was early March when I stepped on the scales and realized that I’m about 50 pounds overweight. The number 50 rang in my head as I realized that I’m not that far from 50 years old. A few quick mathematical calculations and I came to the conclusion that I had 25 months to lose 2 lbs per month. How great would it be to tip the scales at 180 lbs for my half century weigh in!

Well it’s been about three weeks since I started and I’ve lost five pounds. I’m feeling a little better, although that may just be the arrival of spring, I’ve returned to coaching soccer, and I have reduce both the food consumed per meal and the frequency of my snacks. I hope to begin an exercise routine and eliminate the “junk”.

Keep looking for future updates on my “the pursuit of a healthy body”. This week I’m having my cholesterol and triglycerides checked. I don’t expect them to be good, but it will give me a baseline that can be improved.

Love and God Bless!
Keith

A Study In Salvation

For a while now I have been wanting to do a study on the most critical doctrine of the bible. How does one become ‘saved’? What does ‘saved’ mean anyway. Is it the same as receiving eternal life? What does the Bible actually teach about the subject? And does the teachings of the Bible agree with what we teach in the church?

Well now is the time to start. But where do we start? Since we are living in the church age and the church begins in the book of Acts, I’ll start there. Where we end up is up to the leading of the holy spirit. No scripture is out of bounds. Every answer must be arrived at by scripture taken in it’s proper context. I will try my best (with the Spirit’s help) to keep my mind clear of preconcieved doctrines and let the scriptures and Holy Spirit lead me.

For the study I will use the Bible as my guide. The bible will be accepted as the inerrant word of God. Therefore 2 Timothy 3:16 supports that all scripture is valid for use.

(2Ti 3:16 KJV) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

The King James version will be often quoted. I srongly prefer the KJV because of it’s time proven, widespread use. While I may occasionally check other versions of the scripture, I will use the KJV as the final authority.

I think it will be quite a ride and hopefully we will pick up a few passengers on the way.
